Presentation will talk about the pipeline how using trauma informed practices and models such as CARE schools, Berry Street models and a throughcare / wraparound approach could cut the pipeline. With juvenile justice a touch point across every state and territory in Australia the importance of alternate ideas and views is paramount. Identifying and engaging with trauma of a young person and their family in a non-mainstream way has shown signs of success, but the conversation needs to continue. This presentation will combine examples of real-life practice and come from the point of view of a practitioner with a unique set of lived experiences having been in a CARE school principal team, currently working in reintegration, designing a school to meet the needs of young people and having been previously incarcerated himself. The pipeline is real – lets share how we can shut it down.
