Michael Mayne

Voices for Change

Michael Mayne is a founding member of Voices for Change, a disability-justice self-advocacy group based in Melbourne. The group began in 2020. All the members of Voices for Change have an acquired brain injury (ABI) and experience of the criminal justice system. Michael experienced injustice in youth detention when he was a teen and spent over 20 years in and out of prison. Michael believes Voices for Change has saved his life. It gives him a purpose for living and he is passionate about helping other people with an ABI have better experiences of the justice system. Michael’s group shares its lived and living expertise to shape better policies and processes. The also educate the community about ABI and work on reducing the double stigmas of disability and crime. Michael is looking forward to sharing his lived experience short film, Old and New Pentridge, with you. voices-for-change.org
